Police in Mombasa on Thursday intensified search for two Tanzanians and two Kenyans suspected to be behind a human trafficking cartel that has caused an influx of aliens in the town.

This comes barely a day after 8 other suspected illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were arrested at a guest house in Changamwe.

The two Tanzanians are believed to be illegal immigrants agents who have illegally exporting people to European countries.

Mombasa OCPD Tom Mboya Odero said the two went into hiding on Monday when police arrested 28 other aliens at Masalani guest house within Mombasa Island.

Mboya said police are also investigating reports that some immigrations officers could be involved in the human trafficking racket.

The 8 Bangladesh nationals entered the country on diverse dates between July 6th and 17th as tourists but their stay has since expired according to their passports.

On Tuesday, police nabbed twenty eight illegal immigrants at Bondeni area in Mombasa.

Transit point

Mombasa OCPD Tom Odero says 14 of them are of Somali origin while the other 14 are from Ethiopia.

The immigrants had pitched camp for two weeks at a guesthouse in Mombasa before police caught up with them.

Odero says only one of them produced a Kenyan identity card which police are investigating to ascertain its legality.

He said investigations were still underway to establish the identity of the foreigners and how they got into the country.

Odero says Kenya was being used as a transit point by illegal immigrants who come to process their travel documents for other destinations.

Police have now embarked on tracing agents who are processing the documents for the illegal immigrants.

He said in recent weeks, his office has been receiving information about an influx of aliens entering the town illegally.
