CourtGenericA man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the shooting death of 30-year-old Ryan Nissalke in Rochester.

Twenty-one-year-old Muhidin Omar Abukar is one of the two men who have pleaded guilty in the case.

On Tuesday, the Post-Bulletin of Rochester reports, Judge Joseph Wieners followed the plea agreement and sentenced Abukar to 14 years.

Nissalke’s mother, Renee Walz, told Abukar he had “taken the brightest of lights” out of her life.

Abukar and 24-year-old Abdulkadir Ali Mohamud admitted when they pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in October that they had gone to Nissalke’s Rochester apartment to steal drugs or money last July. Nissalke was shot during the confrontation.

Mohamud is scheduled for sentencing later this month.
