Jung Ok-keunSEOUL, (Xinhua) — Jung Ok-keun, Chief of the South Korean Navy, left for Somali waters on Monday for meetings with multinational anti-piracy commanders there, the navy said.

According to a statement by the Navy, Jung will meet with U.S. 5th Fleet Commander V. Adm. William Gortney, French Maj. Gen. Lefort Philippe, and Bahrainian chief of staff Maj. Gen. Sheikh Abdullah Khalifa during his five-day visit.

Jung will also pay a visit to Cheonghae, the South Korean anti-piracy unit dispatched to escort South Korean vessels plying the Gulf of Aden, the Navy said.

South Korea dispatched a 300-crew South Korean destroyer in April to join the U.S.-led anti-piracy operations.

Approximately 500 South Korean ships are in the region, among which 150 are known to be vulnerable to regional pirate attacks, the Navy added. #
