(WCCO) — A Minnesota man accused of plotting with terrorists was supposed to go to court Thursday, but instead he turned down a chance to talk about his imprisonment, for now.
Salah Osman Ahmed, 26, waived his hearing, but did not give a reason. Ahmed and Abdifatah Yusuf Isse are both accused of plotting to kill people in Somalia.
The recent legal action is leading to talk of possibly more arrests in the case of missing Twin Cities men.
“We’re expecting more indictments, more arrests … someone will be held responsible,” Omar Jamal, director of Somali Justice Advocacy Center, said Wednesday when he spoke to the Wayzata Rotary Club.
Thursday, he said the Somali community is buzzing with news of another arrest of a young Somali man but no one has confirmed it.
This comes on the heels of criticism aimed at Sheik Abdirahman Imam at the Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center in Minneapolis.
“The Imam of the mosque and the director … I don’t believe them. They know ins and outs of what’s going on in that building and we want a clear answer from them. They’ve been stonewalling long enough,” said Jamal.
The mosque has been at the center of the FBI anti-terrorism investigation into the disappearance of at least 20 young men.
“The mosque doesn’t have anything to do with the missing men,” said Abdirahman.
He insists the mosque has not urged the young men, four of whom have died in Somalia, to become associated with terrorists.
“We haven’t done anything. We did not break the law,” said Abdirahman.
The FBI said agents have not made any arrest of a Somali in connection with the anti-terrorist investigation since last weekend.
They say no one was arrested last night.
