MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―A man has admitted lying to federal agents investigating Americans ighting in Somalia. Kamal Hassan, whose age and hometown weren’t immediately available, is the third man to plead guilty in the case.
As many as 20 young men have traveled to Somalia to join in fighting there. Family members say at least three have been killed.
Hassan admitted to a federal judge in Minneapolis on Wednesday that he lied to federal agents about what he did after spending time in a training camp run by al-Shabab. Hassan told agents he traveled to Yemen afterward, but said Wednesday he actually fought with al-Shabab.
Hassan also admitted concealing the identities of people he associated with both in Minnesota and Somalia.
