GERBARTAMAHA (BERLIN): — German prosecutors have filed charges against 10 suspected Somali pirates over the hijacking earlier this year of a German container ship.

Hamburg prosecutors’ spokesman Wilhelm Moellers said Tuesday the men are charged with attacking maritime traffic and kidnapping, according to German news agency DAPD.

The nine men and one teenager were captured in the Gulf of Aden on April 5 in a high seas rescue by Dutch Marines that left the MV Taipan’s bridge riddled with bullet holes, though nobody was hurt.

The suspected pirates were extradited from the Netherlands to Germany in June.

There was no immediate word on when a trial might start.
