Somali pirates threaten to kill 26 Bangladeshis

2011-Bartamaha__Somali pirates threatened of killing 26 Bangladeshis on board hijacked ‘MV Jahan Moni’ if owner of the ship fails to pay the ransom by Thursday.

Some of the kidnapped crews conveyed the information to their panicky families in Bangladesh over phone on Wednesday night, our staff correspondent in Chittagong reports.

Shahrier Rabbi, engineer cadet of the hijacked ship, told his mother over phone that the pirates threatened to kill all of them if the ship owner fails to meet the demand by Thursday.

He also said they have been suffering from various complexities including food.

The family members rushed to the owner company of hijacked ship ‘SR Shipping Limited’ in Chittagong Thursday morning.

They conveyed the information to SR Ship managing director Mohammad Shahjahan and Meherul Karim, general manger of Brave Royal Ship Management Ltd, owner and operating firm of the hijacked ship.

Terming the threat as a ‘strategy to create pressure’, Mohammad Shahjahan said: “We are continuing communication with the pirates and the negotiation is in the final stage.”

Meherul expressed hope that the issue will be settled in a week and it will take 1
