Bartamaha (Nairobi):- A spokesman for the EU Naval Force says that a ransom has been delivered by parachute to Somali pirates holding a Singaporean-flagged chemical tanker.
Cmdr. John Harbour says he does not know how much money was paid for the release of the chemical tanker Pramoni. The ship was seized on Jan. 1 with 24 crew members from China, India, Nigeria and Vietnam.
Harbour says that an EU warship is monitoring the situation and pirates are expected to begin counting the money delivered Friday morning and leave the ship within 24 hours.
The cash was bundled up in a waterproof container, attached to a parachute and pushed out the back of a small plane. That’s a common way of delivering the multimillion dollar ransoms the pirates demand.
