By Bruce Cadwallader (Dispatch)Â — A 19-year-old man was sent to prison today for his role in the shooting death of a Somali man in March at the Iftin Restaurant.
Two 17-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl have been charged as adults in the case.
Carlos Cox, 19, of 3048 Howey Rd., pleaded guilty as an accomplice today in the death of Daud Osman in March.
Osman, a 38-year-old father of five, had worked one week at the North Side restaurant when he was robbed at gunpoint about 10 p.m. on March 12, police said.
Two witnesses told detectives that three masked men entered the building at 4191 Cleveland Ave. and demanded money. Osman, a cook, was shot when he appeared from a back room holding a knife.
The robbers took less than $200, police said.
Today, Cox admitted his involvement in the robbery and pleaded guilty to reduced charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Richard S. Sheward sentenced him to 23 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Cox became a suspect in the killing of Osman after he left a fingerprint at a gas station that was held up that week and then was identified in robberies at two convenience stores. Today’s plea combined all those cases, said Assistant County Prosecutor Elizabeth Geraghty.
Dennis Holt, 17, of 2991 Atwood Terrace, is accused of shooting Osman, Geraghty said. Holt was bound over from juvenile court in July and faces charges as an adult of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
Holt was being held in the Franklin County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond, set today by a magistrate.
Delshaun Nix, 17, of 2639 Hiawatha Ave., and Gabrielle Mansour, 17, of 610 Virginia Lane Court, also are charged as accomplices in the killing. Both are in jail.
Geraghty said Mansour has been identified as the getaway driver in the Osman case and other robberies.
