State of the Somali Nation by: Ayanle Dad

What country has not had any effective government for nearly two decades? What country has had, at one point, the largest amount of refugees from any one country? What nation, if it can be called one, sits on the largest amount of unexploited resources in the continent of Africa, yet lavishes in extreme poverty? What group of people share the same religion, culture, language, heritage, and destiny yet kill each other for no reason? What group of people have the largest coast line in Africa but don’t have enough power to protect it from hazardous materials dumped there by other nations? What group of people run from their homes and into the hands of nations half way around the world, because they refuse to negotiate with their own? If you answered Somalia or Somalis to one or more of the questions you guessed right.

In all societies Parents wish their kids to live better and longer lives. They wish for them get the most out of new advances that both science and technology have to offer. The Somali people on the other hand have worked hard day and night to wish for their kids to live in a life of confusion. You cannot have a group of people who both differ in race, religion, and culture to come to a new nation and carry on their life as if nothing happened. That generation will give up their faith and cultural identity in order to fit in or keep them and be alienated; neither of which is good. We can already see this taking place in western society where the Somali population has tremendously increased. Problems of gang violence, killings, and robberies are not uncommon in cities like Columbus, Minneapolis, Toronto, Liverpool, and major cities across EU nations.

A great man once said those who give up their rights in order to attain peace will neither have rights nor attain peace. The Somali people have given up their land and ran half way around the world because they refused to deal with their problems; in the end they will neither have a nation, nor freedom, and will be reduced to beggars.

From history I have learned that those who want peace must go to the negotiation table, but those who seek independence must prepare for war. Somalia is no longer a nation. What little land we have left has been reduced to fiefdoms and is no longer under Somali control. On top of that we are missing land that has been unaccounted for. No nation has seen the fruits of independence without fighting for it. We gained our independence in 1960 and lost it in 1990. This is the Somali Mans Burden. This is our manifest destiny. This is what we have been avoiding for nearly two decades. The Somali people should bear any burden, pay any price, meet any hardship, oppose any foe, defend any friend, stand with any ally, and stand up to any tyrant in order to be FREE. So help us God.
