Dunkin Donuts Pulls Ad Featuring Rachael Ray In A Scarf That Looks Too MUSLIM!!

Dunkin Donuts has pulled a commercial featuring pitchwoman Rachael Ray wearing a scarf because Michelle Malkin and other conservative observers thought the scarf looked too much like a keffiyeh, what Malkin describes as “the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad.”

The company at first pooh-poohed the complaints, claiming the black-and-white wrap was not a keffiyeh. But the right-wing drumbeat on the blogosphere continued and by yesterday, Dunkin’ Donuts decided it’d be easier just to yank the ad.

Said the suits in a statement: ”In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.” Read more »

White House Responds To Scott McClellan’s Accusations

WASHINGTON — In a shocking turnabout, the press secretary most known for defending President Bush on Iraq, Katrina and a host of other controversial issues produced a memoir damning of his old boss on nearly every level _ from too much secrecy to a less-than-honest selling of the war to a lack of personal candor and an unwillingness to admit mistakes.

In the first major insider account of the Bush White House, one-time spokesman Scott McClellan calls the operation “insular, secretive and combative” and says it veered irretrievably off course as a result.

The White House responded angrily Wednesday to McClellan’s confessional memoir, calling it self-serving sour grapes.

“Scott, we now know, is disgruntled about his experience at the White House,” said current White House press secretary Dana Perino, a former deputy to McClellan. “We are puzzled. It is sad. This is not the Scott we knew.” Read more »

Hillary Clinton: “My Husband Did Not Wrap Up The Nomination” Until June … “Bobby Kennedy Was Assassinated In June” …

Hillary Clinton’s argument for staying in the race took a disturbing turn today. While meeting with the editorial board of South Dakota’s Sioux Falls Argus-Leader, she raised the specter of Obama’s assassination as a reason to stay in the race:

“My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it.”

Islamists seize southern Somali town, three killed

MOGADISHU (AFP) — Islamist militants on Saturday seized a southern Somali town after clashes with government troops that claimed at least three lives, elders said.

Their fighters attacked Jilib township, some 400 kilometres (250 miles) south of the capital, touching off deadly clashes with government forces and allied militia.

“Clan militias in the town exchanged fire with the Islamists and three militiamen were killed,” said Mohamed Hassan Warsame, an elder.

“Local authorities emptied the town this morning after heavily-armed Islamist fighters took control of it.”

Abdullahi Mohamed, a local government official said they fled the town, leaving it in the hands of the Islamists.

“We escaped the town early this morning after heavily-armed Islamist militias attacked us. We have been told three militias were killed inside the town.”

The Islamists have waged near-daily attacks in Mogadishu against Ethiopian-backed Somali government forces, which ousted their movement early last year.

A seemingly endless cycle of violence has plagued the Horn of African nation since the toppling of president Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.

Last night’s all new “Saturday Night Live” was hosted by actor Shia Labeouf. The show opened with Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton giving a message to America. Civil War since 1991 (France24)

Since the fall of dictator Siad Barre in 1991, Somalia’s ongoing civil war has caused more than 300,000 deaths. In recent days, more than 90,000 have fled the Somali capital. Since the collapse of dictator Siad Barre’s government in 1991, a number of Islamist groups have sprung up all over Somalia and have banded together as the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC). This organisation rivals the interim government of Somalia, composed of former warlords and their factions. The present regime has been divided by internal quarrels and disagreements about the presence of external peacekeepers on Somali soil.   more

Fatal food riots in Somalia

Somali forces have opened fire during food riots in Mogadishu, leaving at least two people dead.

Two people are reported to have been killed and several injured when troops opened fire in the Somalia capital of Mogadishu on thousands of rioters protesting soaring food prices. Monday’s protest started with a march by women and children complaining about the refusal of traders to accept old 1,000-shilling notes, blaming that for skyrocketing food prices. Read more »
