Woman stabbed outside home in High Point
Bartamaha—A woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was stabbed multiple times on Friday afternoon.
Police said the incident occurred near Lanham Place SW and SW Graham St. at approximately 3:34 p.m.
The woman was walking down the sidewalk with her 9-year-old daughter when she was knocked to the ground, assaulted and stabbed multiple times.
The 40-year-old woman was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and police have taken a man into custody. The victim’s daughter was not hurt.
Several neighbors said they, along with the victim’s young daughter, witnessed the gruesome attack.
“I heard yelling, people saying, ‘Call the police! Call the police!‘” said one witness. “I saw a woman laying down there, and a man was hitting her.”
“He was using a knife. He was hitting her with a knife,” the witness said. “He was punching her. He was kicking her.”
Witnesses said the woman was bleeding in the street, and when the man saw that he was attracting the neighbors’ attention, he fled. They said five or six people followed him to his nearby home while others called police.
“We followed him,” said one woman, adding she was scared. “He ran away before the police (arrived). Because he had to be punished. That’s why we followed him.”
The woman said she even confronted the man and asked why he’d assaulted the woman, and the man reportedly responded, “I was doing my job.”
“I don’t know what the job (is) that he’s talking about,” she said.
The man was arrested without incident at the home in the 6300 block of 29th Ave. SW. He has been booked into the King County Jail under investigation of assault. Police said they’ve recovered the knife used in the attack.
According to neighbors, the stabbed women is a mother of five.
“There was a lot of kids that came out of the home (in front of which she was stabbed),” said a second woman. “They were yelling, ‘Call the police! Who’s going to call the police?!’ That’s why I came out.”
The women said they couldn’t understand why the man attacked the woman, whom they described as “nice” and “friendly.”
“She helps her neighbors,” said one neighbor.
“She’s a good person,” said another.
The investigation is ongoing.
