Wash. man convicted in cab driver’s stabbing death
Bartamaha (Washington):-Jurors in Washington state have convicted a 32-year-old man of murder in the stabbing death of a cab driver who came to the U.S. to escape the violence of his native Somalia.
The Pierce County Superior Court jury on Wednesday convicted Jaycee Fuller of Tacoma in the March 2009 slaying of 22-year-old Mohamud Ahmed. Sentencing is set for March 12.
Prosecutors say Fuller, a former cab driver himself, slashed Ahmed’s throat and stabbed him in the chest during a robbery attempt. They presented as evidence a cap found near the scene that had Ahmed’s blood on the outside and Fuller’s DNA on the inside.
Prosecutors also say Fuller was unemployed and was known to dislike foreigners because he thought they were taking jobs from Americans.
Public defender John Chin says detectives found no evidence of a robbery and no evidence Fuller was in the cab.
