Turkish Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmet Davutoglu Hosts the Somali President and Ban Ki-Moon for a Dinner
(Istanbul, Turkey, May 21, 2010) The Turkish Foreign Minister, Dr.
Ahmet Davutoglu, hosted a dinner tonight for visiting Somali President
Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the Secretary General of the United Nations
Ban Ki-Moon.
The purpose of the trilateral working-dinner for the Somali President
and the two co-hosting parties was to update the Somali President
about the progress of the international conference on Somalia and the
expected outcome for the Somali people.
Dr. davutoglu informed the gathered officials that over 47 countries
and International organizations sent high level delegations to the
conference, an indication of an emerging and positive international
momentum to help Somalia.
President Sharif was accompanied to the dinner by Foreign Minister Ali
Ahmed Jama and the Minister of Higher Education Mohamed Abdullahi
Omaar.
On his side, the Secretary General was accompanied by the UN
Under-Secretary for political affairs and Secretary General’s Special
Representative for Somalia.
Tomorrow, the Somali President, The Secretary General of the United
Nations and the Turkish Prime Minister will address the gathered
officials and this will be followed by a press conference.
In the meantime, the Somali President met earlier today with the
President of Turkey, Abdullah Gul and the two leaders exchanged views
on the way forward form Somalia.
