Somalia: Lawmakers Denounce Disbanding of National Council of Somali Journalists
Mogadishu — Some Somali Lawmakers and government ministers denounced Monday the decision of the information minister of the Somali government Farhan Ali Mohamoud who disbanded the Council of Somali journalists.
Saynab Mohamed Amir, one of the Somali parliamentarians said that the minister hastened to disband the council with out consulting to the parliament.
Ali Jama, one of the Somali government ministers said that the Council was approved by the Somali parliament and the cabinet of the former government. He added that the minister would better consult with the cabinet and the parliament before taking such decision.
Separately, the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) welcomed the decision of the information minister.
The secretary general of NUSOJ Omar Faruk Osman told Shabelle Media from Kigali, Burundi that the decision was good and his organization welcomes it.
