British Government has today sent condolences to Somali journalists for the murder of three journalists who were killed in Mogadishu blast. On behalf of the UK government, British High Commissioner to Kenya and Somalia Rob Macaire said in a letter sent to Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists Omar Faruk Osman “I would like to pass my condolences to you and your colleagues for the death of the Somali journalists brutally murdered in the terrorist attack at Benadir University on 3 December”.
The British High Commissioner added in his letter “May I add that at a personal level, having had a chance to meet the representatives of Somali journalism at your conference last week, and to hear from them the enormous pressures and dangers they face, I was devastated to hear the news of the attack. The utterly senseless murder of trainee doctors, Ministers working in the social sector, and journalists carrying out their job of reporting on events in Somalia, will have appalled all civilised people. It proves, if any proof were needed, that the groups and individuals who plan and carry out such attacks are the enemies of the Somali people and of all who want a decent, safe future for the country.”

Ambassador Stefano Dejak of Italy had this morning visited wounded journalists, medical doctors and the Minister of Sports and Youth of Somalia at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. The ambassador wished these victims immediate recovery.
