Somali Parliament to meet
Bartamaha (Mogadishu):-Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur alias Sheikh Aden Madobe, the Speaker of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Parliament, on Thursday announced that that the house will reconvene its sessions on Sunday, May 16.
The speaker made the announcement following an extra-ordinary meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary sub-committees.
Sheikh Aden Madobe stated that the parliamentary leadership has finally endorsed that long suspended sessions will restart next Sunday.
He indicated that it will take place at Golaha Shacabka (the people’s hall), the building that housed the former parliament during the military regime in the 1980s.
“We are going to hold a meeting in the Golaha Shacabka after 20 years,†remarked the speaker. He urged the legislators in and out of Somalia to participate in the proclaimed session.
The speaker’s notice comes at a time the legislators are bitterly divided over the leadership of the Somali parliament.
A number of MPs are of the opinion that the speaker and his deputy’s term had ended in August 2009.
Other parliamentarians support the speaker and his deputy, Professor Mohamed Omar Dhalha, to keep chairing till end of the current parliament’s term in August 2011.
