Somali MPs call UN Envoy either step down from Somalia or apologize
Mogadishu (BARTAMAHA) Somalia Parliament Members on Tuesday asked the UN Special Envoy for Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Kay to step down or apologize from his recent statement which he allegedly said that some of the country’s parliamentarians were getting cash in change for votes.
MP Mohamed Abdi Mareye who spoke to the media during a special gathering for the parliamentarians described Nicholas Kay as “unprofessional diplomat” and accused that he went beyond the ethics of the international diplomacy.
“We call him to step down from his position as the UN Special Envoy or give an urgent apology from his wrongdoings.” MP Mareeye said.
During the Tuesday’s special gathering Somali Parliament strongly rejected the allegations of bribery to them by the presidency in order to endorse the motion of No Confidence against the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed.
Meanwhile President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also called the UN to stop meddling Somalia’s internal politics. In a quick reaction statement on Monday, President Mohamud said that the international community must respect and allow them to resolve their differences through legitimate means and within the existing and maturing institutions.
