Somali militant group bans 3 aid agencies.
artamaha (Mogadishu):- A Somali militant group with links to al-Qaida has banned three Christian aid agencies from its territory.
Al-Shabab says in a Monday statement that World Vision, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency and Diakonia must immediately leave Somalia because the groups were actively propagating Christianity in the overwhelmingly Muslim country.
The group has also warned other aid agencies against taking up the work of the banned organizations, saying they will face “appropriate disciplinary measures.”
Officials of the aid agencies were not immediately available for comment.
Al-Shabab, the militant group that claimed responsibility for twin blasts in Uganda during the World Cup final, has already banned several U.N. agencies and aid groups.
