The Somali legislators have on the injury hours of Saturday elected Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey as the 1st speaker of the Somali national assembly.

The candidates who were racing for the post of the 1st speaker of the Somali national assembly were almost 10 and the contest has reached till the 3rd round and the only candidates who have reached the 3rd round were Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey and Khadija Mohammed Diriye who was the only female candidate contesting for the post of the 1st speaker of the Somali national speaker.

And in the 3rd round Mr. Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim the winner of the contest has thrashed his challenging candidate Mrs. Khadija Mohammed Diriye with 62 votes and in another word Mr. Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey has obtained 192 votes while Khadija Mohammed Diriye has obtained 130.

The speaker of the Somali national assembly the former Minister for Finance Shariff Hassan Sheikh Adan was presiding the election of the 1st speaker of the Somali parliament, and has said that 3 votes got spoilt.

Mrs. Khadija Mohammed Diriye who was the only female contesting the post of the speaker of the Somali national assembly and reached the final stage of the election has congratulated Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey the man who has beaten her in the contest.

“I am very much contented Abdiweli to be the new speaker of the Somali national assembly, and honorable Abdiweli to be the 1st speaker of the Somali national assembly is just the same I being the 1st speaker of the Somali parliament” said Madam Khadija Mohammed Diriye.

After Madam Khadija has walked from the microphone the computation of the 1st speaker of the Somali national assembly Mr. Abdiweli has picked the microphone and thanked the speaker of the house Shariff Hassan the Somali parliamentarians in the parliament house all his colleagues who were contesting with him and the entire over lookers.

This will be a historical day because it is the first time a speaker of his deputy to be democratically elected in Somalia by the Somali parliamentarians.
