Somali government, AMISOM to investigate rape allegation
The Somali government has expressed concern over allegations that personnel from AMISOM raped a Somali woman at the Maslah Military Camp in Mogadishu on August 8.
The Somali Federal Government’s Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, while meeting with senior cabinet officials said that investigations will be carried out and perpetrators brought to book.
“The Somali government will not tolerate violation of human rights, in particular sexual violence towards the most vulnerable members of our society and perpetrators will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law”. Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon said at a meeting with his Senior Cabinet members.
Shirdon said that senior AMISOM officials will assist in the investigations and take the necessary steps to bring to justice those found culpable.
The team appointed by Shirdon to establish the truth of the allegations is led by Minister of Social Services Dr Mariam Qassim who will report back to the Prime Minister the outcome of this investigation.
