‘Somali border violence claims 20 lives’
Bartamaha (Nairobi):- At least 20 people have been killed in clashes between Somali villagers and foreign forces in a border area in western Somalia, witnesses say.
Violence erupted on Saturday and continued on Sunday in al-Dibir village where residents took up arms against the foreign troops involved in a weeklong security operation in the area, a Press TV correspondent reported.
“It’s unfortunate that all those killed, including a renowned cleric were innocent residents who had nothing to do with violence,” said Sheikh Bashir, a village elder.
Meanwhile, the foreign forces have accused the locals of blocking aid trucks for the region.
The villagers have blamed ‘Ethiopian forces’ for the conflict.
In a similar incident in May, 12 residents of a town in Somalia’s Somaliland, the self-declared republic in the northwest, were killed in a purported Ethiopian military incursion.
