President Hassan meets with Members of the Federal Parliament originally from Puntland
Mogadishu (BARTAMAHA) Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met with the members of the Federal Parliament originally from Puntland to discuss with the political heat up between him and the Prime Minister.
According to sources, 25 Members of the Parliament from Puntland accepted the president’s invitation to them at the Villa Somalia on Tuesday.
The discussion took more than three hours as the president asked the legislators to support a possible motion of a No Confidence against the Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed and his cabinet which if succeeds will open the way for the appointment of a new Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed and a new cabinet.
At least one source told RBC Radio that the Members of the Parliament from Puntland demanded the new Prime Minister should come from Puntland clans while in return for this, the legislators will now support the Villa Somalia’s motion to oust the Prime Minister.
The meeting after hours when another rival MPs from Puntland endorsed the statement of UN’s Nicholas Kay on Sunday which suggested a unity and continuity of government.
On his side, Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed continued to engage with the other groups of MPs who are principally supporting him in a fight to win over the president-supported motion.
