Norwegian citizen killed in Somalia, battle for al Shabaab

16009Mogadishu: Norwegian government Sources confirmed for the first time that Norwegian citizen has been killed in the battle for al Shabab rebel group in Somalia’s war ravaged country.

Also Somali intelligent agent in Mogadishu told RBC Radio they have received a Somali-Norwegian citizen had been killed during the last fighting in the capital.

According to the information, this is the first time a Norwegian citizen was killed in Somalia battle where the al Shabaab militants are fighting against the international backed government and the African Union troops in the country.

The man who was killed came to Norway as a refugee from Somalia. He has lived in the Oslo area. After living several years in Norway, he got Norwegian citizenship. So he went forth to fight for al Shabab group in Somalia- his native homeland.

Stig Jarle Hansen, a researcher at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences at and Somalia expert says the man has been recruited, probably through the internet, where the militants always publish their propaganda to the youth.

According to Somalia security agents several Norwegian figures are fighting for al Shabab.

Al Shabaab militias who control most swaths of the country consist of several thousand fighters from different countries, and they have declared full support to the terrorist network of al Qaeda.

Ideologically, the group belonging to the Saudi wahabbist direction within Sunni Islam. The group maintained harsh punishment which they imposed on the population under the areas they control. Television, cinema and music are not allowed.

It is believed that the recruitment of youth in western countries takes place on the internet.

Earlier, Somalia expert told that several leaders of Al-Shabaab have lived in Scandinavia for several periods. They follow well with the Norwegian media, and use the internet actively recruiting.
