Man Charged for Threatening Somali Man’s Life
MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Police arrived to the scene of a public disturbance Monday to find a man threatening another man’s life while in possession of two loaded firearms at a bus stop on Cedar Avenue and Fifth Street.
Officers witnessed the suspect shouting obscenities and threatening to kill the victim. As the victim was fleeing the suspect, he ran up to arriving police claiming he did not know the man or his motive for the threat.
The suspect, George Loren Thompson, then proceeded into the nearby Nomad World Pub, where he was taken in to custody by officers. He was believed to be intoxicated and in possession of two loaded firearms, said police, though he refused to submit to alcohol testing. Thompson does have a permit to carry firearms.
The victim claims Thompson approached him as he was getting into his car, and asked him if he was Somalian. The victim confirmed that he was of Somalian descent – which he claims prompted Thompson to chase and threaten him.
Thompson remains in custody of Minneapolis police and faces a felony charge of making Terroristic Threats – which holds a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.Â
