Al Shabaab to launch suicide attacks using planes?
Sources close to al Shabaab militants indicate that they are planning to launch suicide attacks using planes against Somali government and AU centers in Mogadishu, reports Raxanreeb.com
The sources say they are going to use the small planes that import the narcotic green leaves known as Khat from Kenya to Somalia.
The Kenyan aircraft import Khat from Wilson airport in Nairobi and bring it to the km50-airstrip in Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia.
The militants exploded the main base of the African Union troops in Mogadishu using two vehicles with UN logos.
Some other reports also suggest that four Somali nationals and a white foreigner participated in the suicide attacks, which killed over 21 peace keepers from Burundi and Uganda.
The sources say al Shabaab will also try to hijack the small planes chartered for ICRC to explode AU and government bases.
Analysts, however, were quick to refute such “dreams” and called the report an ludicrous attempt by some “dream-tank” to further restrict the movement and air transport of independent NGOs and humanitarian groups as well as business people and to bring a new angle to the business-wars in the lucrative trade transporting Khat (Catha edulis).
