Government forces shut down two local radio stations following disarmament operation
Mogadishu (BARTAMAHA) Somali government security forces on Friday shut down two local radio stations in Mogadishu after describing the ongoing anti-security operations to disarm warlords as “Al Shabab operation in Mogadishu”, security official who spoke to RBC Radio confirmed.
The FM frequencies of the two radio stations Shabelle and Sky Fm were shut around 12 pm on Friday shorty after the joint security forces of Somalia and AMISOM ended a deadly operation against a heavily armed warlord in Wadajir district of Mogadishu.
The security forces also took some of the staff of the two radio stations to the Criminal Investigation Department for interrogation.
Local journalist in the capital city told RBC Radio that both radio stations owned by own person were airing news about the ongoing security operation aimed to disarm a powerful former warlord Ahmed Daaci in Wadajir district.
Both stations described the disarmament operations were Al Shabab planed and urged the clans from Hawiye in Mogadishu to start armed resistance against Somali government and the African Union Mission in Somalia, the journalist told RBC Radio.
Government-owned state radio confirmed the shut down of the two stations was ordered by the security minister to avoid further insurgency in Mogadishu as the security forces continue to secure the capital city from armed clan militias and warlords hindering peace.
