Int’l envoys to Africa hold 1st meeting Thursday.
Bartamaha (Cairo):- The Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit and the African Union Commission chairman Jean Ping will inaugurate the First Meeting of the Special Envoys of the Secretary General of the United Nations and other international envoys to Africa on Thursday in Cairo, Soad Shalaby, director of the Cairo-based Training Centre in Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution in Africa told reporters on Saturday.
The meeting to be held from 26 to 28 August comes within the framework of the African Union celebration of 2010 as the Year of Peace and Security.
Soad Shalaby said that all peace envoys to Africa from the United Nations, other regional organizations and international parties as well as about a hundred international figures will participate in this meeting.
Participants will discuss the challenges facing peace and sustainable security in Africa, including violence in the continent and the development of peace agreements, justice and focus on specific cases such as Darfur, Somalia, and the West Africa region.
