IGAD Ministerial Council Deliberating On Situations In Sudan, Somalia
Bartamaha (Addis-ababa):- The 38th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has deliberated on the situation in Sudan and Somalia here on Monday.
In a press conference he gave to journalists deputy prime minister and foreign affairs minister Hailemariam Dessalegn said the session has discussed on the progress of the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on Sudan and on the situation in Somalia.
Hailemariam said the registration of voters for Sudan referendum is well underway and the two Sudanese parties are working with commitment.
Minister for Internal Security and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Professor George Saitoti his part said IGAD is closely working with Sudanese parties.
The Sudanese parties are committed to discharge their responsibilities and they have done well so far, he said.
Professor George said the discussion on CPA and the issue of Abyei province is well underway.
He said IGAD has major role and committed itself to the matters since the start of the meeting and is enhancing the process to help both parties reach on agreement.
The minster said the session has also discussed on the situation in Somalia and expressed its concern over slow response of the UN for the issue of Somalia.
Prof. George lauds Uganda’s and Burundi’s fast response for Somalia.
