Gender violence remains a critical concern in UNHCR’s interventions for the protection of IDPs. In a panel discussion on gender issues in Somalia, UNHCR feted the 2012 Nansen Refugee Awarded, Ms Hawa Aden Mohamed.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres presented the Nansen Refugee Award to Somali humanitarian, educator and women’s rights advocate Hawa Aden Mohamed. She was unable to attend in person for health reasons.
