A New Hope man has pleaded guilty to making terroristic threats for posting on Craigslist that he would bring his rifle for target practice to a Somali cultural event in St. Cloud.
James Scott Miller, 49, had already told police he posted the threat in response to a Craigslist advertisement for a Somali cultural night at St. Cloud State University. In court Monday, Miller said he posted the threat to “get a rise out of some people” and that he didn’t realize it would cause people to fear for their safety.
Miller’s plea agreement caps his sentence at 90 days. He’ll be sentenced at a later date.
Man dies after wife backs car into him
A 77-year-old Fergus Falls man has died after his wife accidentally backed into him in the couple’s driveway.
Police say Robert William Jensen was walking down the driveway Saturday afternoon to pick up the mail when his 74-year-old wife backed her car into him, knocking him to the ground.
Police say the car was traveling at 5 mph. They have declared the incident accidental.
Police hold benefit for cleaning lady
Members of a Minnesota police department are holding a benefit for one of their cleaning ladies who has suffered more than her share of heartbreak recently.
Mound police officers know 68-year-old Evelyn Bruce because she has cleaned the public safety building in Mound for the past two years. She has a heart condition and her husband has a terminal illness. Meanwhile, her son died of bone cancer last month and her daughter was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Student charged in bomb scare
An 18-year-old Mondovi High School student has been charged with making a bomb threat at the Wisconsin school.
Prosecutors say Elizabeth E. Johnson wrote a bomb-scare note that was found in a school restroom March 12.
School administrators locked down the school and evacuated two classrooms. Police reports say no bomb was found.
An investigation led police to paper scraps in Johnson’s desk.
