Gavin Henson and Charlotte Church get engaged
Bartamaha (Nairobi):- Singer and TV presenter Charlotte Church has got engaged to Wales international Gavin Henson, she has told celebrity magazine OK!.
Henson, who is currently on indefinite leave from rugby, proposed to Church the day after they celebrated her 24th birthday in February.
The rugby star flew his girlfriend by helicopter to Cornwall and proposed on one knee in a restaurant.
Church told OK! she was “absolutely joyous” and “really emotional”.
Church and Henson have two children together, Ruby, who is aged two, and 15-month-old, Dexter, and have been together since 2005.
Island hideaway
The pair want to marry on an island hideaway with their children as bridesmaid and page boy.
The magazine reports that Henson secretly bought Church a two-carat heart-shaped diamond engagement ring while they were on holiday in Dubai in January.
He proposed to her six weeks ago, when the star, who is currently a judge in the BBC series Over the Rainbow, was feeling unwell after spending the previous night celebrating her birthday.
Church told OK! said she was surprised to hear a helicopter, belonging to Henson’s rugby boss, land in the garden of their home.
The couple were taken to a seafront restaurant in Truro, Cornwall, which Church assumed was a birthday treat until they went for a walk and Henson went down on one knee.
He told her: “We’ve had good times and hard times, but it’s mostly been good times and I think we’re meant to be together now for the rest of our lives.”
Church told OK! the proposal was “awesome”.
She said: “We were always like: ‘Yeah, yeah, we’ll do it one day,’ but I was beginning to think I was going to be girlfriend for the rest of my life.”
Henson told OK! that he proposed when Church was feeling a bit “sketchy” because she was a lot more “lovey, so I thought she’s definitely going to say yes then”.
