From Somalia through Mexico
Bartamaha (Nairobi):-Around the same time President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon were jointly shaming Arizona for its new law allowing local law enforcement officers to arrest illegal immigrants, federal officials rather quietly warned officials in Texas to be on the lookout for a militant Islamic terrorist they believe is trying to cross from Mexico into the United States.
Reality just won’t stop trying to knock Obama’s ideological blinders off.
Why would the federal government believe an Islamic terrorist from Somalia is trying to cross our Swiss cheese border with Mexico? A captured terror suspect apparently has spilled a few beans.
In 2008, the United States captured a Somali man named Ahmed Muhammed Dhakane. He wasn’t taken in Afghanistan or on a pirate ship. He was nabbed in Brownsville, Texas. Federal prosecutors say he ran a smuggling ring that brought hundreds of people into the United States from Mexico. Most of them were from Africa, and several are believed to be affiliated with a Somali terrorist organization. Houston officials told The Associated Press last week that Dhakane’s case was related to the warning they received about a Somali terrorist headed their way.
As some have been saying for years, Washington’s gutless refusal to control our southern border has consequences far more dire than the daily arrival in this country of thousands of poor Mexicans looking for work. But every time the valid national security issue is raised, it is dismissed as hyperbolic or, worse, racist.
It isn’t racist or unreasonable. A country that doesn’t control its borders is a country vulnerable to international terrorism. Why would we go to such great lengths to stop terrorists at airports, but leave our back door wide open? It makes no sense. But we do it, putting the lives of American citizens at risk. And for what? So businesses can hire laborers for less? That’s not a good trade-off.
