Bartamaha (Sydney):- In the wake of recent misuse of passports of many European countries and to counter terrorism, Australia announced Tuesday stricter security checks, including finger-printing and face-scanning, for visitors from 10 “high-risk countries.”

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said his country was facing a rising threat from “home-grown terrorists”–Australian-born, Australian-educated and Australian-radicalized (obviously Islamic) residents–as he unveiled a new counter-terrorism white paper meant for pople from ten unnamed countries.

Visitors from these 10 countries, assessed a serious security risk, will have to undergo finger-printing and face-scanning.
“Terrorism continues to pose a serious threat and a serious challenge to Australia’s security interests. That threat is not diminishing,” said Rudd, who identified Somalia and Yemen as two countries where the threat of Islamic extremism was growing.

“In fact, government security intelligence agencies assess that terrorism has become a persistent and permanent feature of Australia’s security environment,” he said.

The announcement came after five Australians of foreign origin received long sentences last week for conspiring to launch a jihadist (Islamist religious) attack.
