38 dead in Somali clan violence
DHUSAMAREB, Somalia, Dec. 2 (UPI) – A clan clash in Somalia’s central Galgadud province left 38 people dead and many more injured, witnesses said.
The gun battle broke out Saturday in the Balal-Dheer neighborhood, about 62 miles away from Dhusamareb, the capital of Galgadud, the Shabelle Media Network reported Sunday.
Witnesses said the fighting was sparked by a dispute between two clans over a water well. The clans were allegedly calling for reinforcements as the battle was ongoing Sunday, Shabelle reported.
Clan elders, though, called for a cease-fire and asked the clan militias to end hostilities in favor of talks.
