Mo Farah sets new British 10km road record
Telegraph — Mo Farah, whose brilliant form in the winter culminated in the European indoor 3,000 metres crown, served notice that he will be a force to be reckoned with this summer by breaking the 25-year-old British 10km road record.
Farah, 26, was an impressive winner of the Bupa London 10,000 after running away from Kenya’
s Samuel Kosgei at the 7km mark and crossing the finish line in The Mall in a time of 27min 50sec.
That was five seconds quicker than the previous official record set by Mark Scrutton in Arizona in 1984.
Â
“I didn’t even know I’d broken the British record,†Farah said. “I’ve just heard that now, which is nice to hear. All I wanted to do was to go close to 28 minutes.â€
Farah, who has just returned from a three-week high-altitude training camp hosted by Paula Radcliffe at Font Romeu, France, finished 13 seconds ahead of second-placed Kosgei, with Ukraine’
s Sergiy Lebid, the eight-time European cross-country champion, third in 28min 36sec.
New Zealander Kim Smith was the runaway winner of the women’s race, recording a time of 31min 38sec, with Britain’
s Hatti Dean second in 33min 52sec.
