somali mBartamaha (Mogadishu):-At least 17 people have been killed and 28 injured in attacks by al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam fighters on the African Union (AU) forces and Somali government soldiers in southern Mogadishu.
Meanwhile, the AU troops and pro-government forces attacked Bakara, an open market at the center of Mogadishu, where 7 civilians were killed in the crossfire.

In other clashes which broke out close to the market, 10 people were killed and 28 others wounded.

“Hospitals are busy and ambulances are carrying more injured civilians,” a Press TV correspondent reported adding al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam fighters have claimed victory in the fighting.

Dozens of Somali government troops have also been killed in clashes,” Hizbul Islam spokesman Osman Arus claimed.

Somalia has been in a mire of civil war for years as it has not had a functioning national government since the overthrow of the country’s dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
