No word on local hostage
A Russian and three Ger-mans have been taken ashore by Somali pirates who seized the German cargo ship MV Hansa Stavanger in April but still no word on the fate of Fiji national Wayne Suliana.
The four crew members are being held in detention somewhere in the depth of the Somali territory.
Last week, BBC News reported the Somali pirates released a German ship after receiving $1.8million in ransom from the initial $US15m they demanded for the release of MV Hansa Stavanger.
Foreign Affairs acting deputy permanent secretary Sila Balawa said they have not received any progress report on the hostage situation but were closely working with neighbouring countries.
“It is an issue we will keep alive with other nations because their nationals are also hostages,” Mr Balawa said.
“This is an ongoing issue and we are relying on other nations to keep us informed about the progress of negotiations.”
Mr Suliana’s brother Joseph Fesaitu said he heard about the hostages being taken ashore but nothing about his brother.
“The last time we talked was almost two months ago and we haven’t heard anything since,” he said.
“For now, we can only hope and pray for his safe return.”
