Kenya warns friends of Al Shabaab

wetaForeign Affairs minister Moses Wetangula has warned external aggressors and their sympathisers.

Mr Wetangula said the operation against Al Shabaab insurgents on Somali soil by Kenyan forces is not disrespect to the country’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG).

“We enjoy good diplomatic relationships with the Somalia government under President Shiekh Sharif and we are pursing one course to bring down our common enemy, the Al Shabaab,” he said.

The minister faulted countries backing the illegal groups warning that such governments risk isolation.

“We are vigilant and set to use every possible way to bring the Al Shabaab to its knees because we cannot compromise the security of our people,” vowed Wetangula.

Enemies

Describing backers of the Al Shabaab insurgents as enemies of the world, Wetangula said countries should have a common goal against illegal militia groups.

The minister said Igad fully supports joint efforts by Kenya and TFG forces to descend on and destroy Al Shabaab to end the suffering of the people of Somalia.

The minister noted that extremism and intolerance was a hopeless act by people who do not believe in equity and life.

He took issue with the church grenade attack in Garissa, adding that an explosive device in a house of prayer, be it a mosque or a church, was the height of infamy.

While speaking at Musingu Cops Salvation Army Church in Malava, Kakamega North District, Wetangula condemned the attack.

“This makes it very clear that the Government, the region and indeed the international community supports and understands Kenya’s resolve to fight extremists,” he explained.

The minister said the Government was doing the right thing and will not look back as the move is resonating throughout the country’s population. Wetangula warned that those who think they can exist at the expense of others and must live by their ideologies have no space in Kenya.

“Those are ideologies of destruction and the Government will continue to fight the extremists,’ he added
